I know people say drink 6 to 8 glasses of water a day, but I'm a 16 year old female and I try and drink that much, but I need to go to the toilet lots, and that's embarrassing so I tend to not drink much, then I get headaches.

Please help me!! :)

  1. 2 ltrs

  2. why is theat embarassing? its natural, and why do you need t ogo to the toilets?

  3. Well doctors say you should drink 8 litres a day but we cant really do that. They say if you want to live a healthy life drink plenty of water

  4. I have the same problem with my teen who is the same age as you. She doesn't drink the required 3 litres of fluids. ( it needn't be all water remember ). Soups, juices, milk... all count.

What I have her do is start getting the fluids in before she leaves for school in the morning. This ways it is flushed out of the system before she leaves home. A cup of green tea, a glass of milk or orange juice in the morning.

She carries a 600ml bottle of water to school and a Tupperware flask with Tang. Water is for the lunch break and she drinks the Tang on her way back from school.

Once home I give her a glass of juice or buttermilk. Before bed she has a glass of milk.

    Calculate -

    Tea - 150ml.

    Juice / milk - 300ml.

    Water - 600ml.

    Tang 300ml.

    Juice / Buttermilk - 300ml.

    Milk - 300ml

All this adds up to 1950ml

The balance she gets from water at dinner time, soup before dinner and fruits and salad. Remember all fresh fruits and salad vegetables are full of water.

    Try it out.

  5. 6 litres

  6. Uhm.. don't force yourself. Drinking 6-8 glasses of water to be healthy is a fallacy, theres no scientific study that have prove that yet, just drink according to your body's need.',

  7. i was watching OPRAH the other day and dr OZ came on and he said you only need to drink water when you are thirsty.its not proven to do anything. we have so much water anyway in our fods eg a steak is made up 40% of water,so dont fret,i used to do the same!

  8. Water is the best..I have always heard 6 to 8 cups of water...too....but eat healthy as well..

  9. drink according to need and time - sometimes you might not feel thirsty (eg. once you get up) but you still need some replenishment.

  10. Yes you can get some water from the foods you eat.

6 - 8 ounces is just a basic answer. A more accurate one is to take your body weight, devide by 2 and that is how many ounces of water you need. Plus 8 more ounces for every 20 miutes worth of exercise you do too.

I know if I get a headache that I usually need to drink water and it goes away too. Also if you feel tired in the middle of the day it just may be that you are dehydrated. If you feel tired, drink 2 glasses of water. If after 15 minutes you feel awake then you were dehydrated if you are still tired then you are really tired.

Also one of the reasons why we eat too much and am over weight is that the trigger that tells us that we are thirsty is so week that we often think we are hungry. In other words if you think you are hungry try a glass of water and after 15 minutes you are no longer hungry then you never were. If you are then by all means eat something. If you find that many of the times that you thought you were hungry and you were just thursty you might start to loose a little weight.

  11. I drink about 3 gallons of water a day... some people get by on four glasses a day.  one thing you really have to look at is yoru water purity.  If your water is extreamly pure, make sure you take a mulit vitamin (otherwise the water will leach it out of you).  In my case, I use flouride free toothpaste because of natural flouride content.  Everything, when it comes to local water, is local.  Look at what you need, and adjust accoringly.

  12. i've heard that if you're thirsty, you're already dehydrated, and that you should be drinking regularly throughout the day.  it was my understanding that most experts agree that 64 ounces of water a day (that's 8 cups) is what you should drink.  i was reading up on it recently, and they say that when you first begin drinking this amount of water, you do have to make those frequent trips to the bathroom, but it's only temporary if you stick with it.  this is because your body stores a TON of water-- it's a survival technique, since we don't drink all the water we should per day, our bodies retain a lot of it so it will have it when it needs it.  But, after some time drinking 6-8 cups of water per day, your body will become accustomed to getting enough water on a regular basis and will get rid of a lot of the stored water.  This will in turn reduce bathroom trips because you'll be using all the water you're drinking... I should also add that this process can potentially allow you to drop some pounds- you'd be surprised how much of your body weight is water weight!

    Hope that helps, girl.

*edit* drinking all that water really isn't so bad, so long as you pace yourself throughout the day.
