My baby loves drinking water. Her sippy cup is always on the ground and she drinks whenever she wants. She drinks about 30 oz per day.Is that too much? This helps her with constipation. But I am worried that she ge water intoxication or any other problem.

  1. She is fine as long as she is also getting formula or breast-milk (at least 24 oz) during the day too.  I know I drank a lot of water too and so don't my boys.  It is better that she drinks the water than for her to be wanting juice or pop like many kids today.

  2. As long as she is not filling up on water and not eatingenough solids/drinking enough milk, than there should not be a problem. I have done thesame with my boys (ir leave a bottle of water within esay reach) and now my oldest will drink only water or Milk so I think it is a good thing!

  3. At that age, she should be getting nutrients out of everything she eats and drinks.  If she is drinking 30 ounces per day she is not eating as much as she should.  If she has problems with constipation, that is another sign that she is not eating the proper foods.

Give her snacks between breakfast and lunch and again between lunch and dinner, as well as a small snack before she goes to bed.  Her snacks can be made up of pieces of fruit or vegetables so that she gets some fibre.  You can also give her pieces of cheese and whole wheat crackers.  The fibre will ensure that her bowel movements are regular.

If you live in a very hot climate, she might have one cup of water per day.  That is definitely the most she should have.  She should be breastfeeding every couple of hours.

  4. 8 ounces or the amount needed to satisfy their thirst (WIC nutritionist).

My baby loves drinking water too.  He has a healthy appetite, eats often, so I let him sip to his hearts content.

Mine is 26 lbs and he will be constipated if he doesn't drink enough either.  I also give him prunes and pears.
