  1. I would not go over 240 with tack. After that it just gets misserable for the horse. If your horse is not having any fun he/she is no longer part of the team which can become disasterous and sometimes a huge fight.I don't see any one having fun with their horse at that point.

  2. For regular work a horse should only carry a maximum of 20% of its own body weight.  So a horse that is in good shape that weighs 1,500 pounds or more can carry 300 pounds.  You should take care to make sure that the total weight includes saddle, rider, and anything else that might be on the horse's back.

  3. watch Hoss Cartwright on Bonanza

  4. 10% of horses weight...300 not recommended

  5. Only if he is a draft horse that is over 16 hands

i don not believe in Number2's answer

    I don't care what it's significantly 20percent

I believe its cruel to the horse 200lbs is enough  tops  period

    with saddle etc

Over a period of time it will show on the horse Now if the rider is very good almost perfect Maybe a bit More then 200,

    but that's IT ,,

I wonder why over weight riders always choose the smallest horse?

I had a onwer who was over 200 and she had a small 15.1 mustang  she brought him over for me to see what was wrong with him

well After I saw her and the horse I understood why he lied down when she got on his back !!!!!!!

  6. depends on how big the horse is and what breed
