How much weight did you lose becoming vegan?

Ok, so I am a *NEW* vegan, have been for about 2 weeks. I've already lost about 8 lbs, and I wanted to know how much other people have lost *in a certain amount of time*

I didn't become a vegan to lose weight, but it sure is another motivator =)

Also, if someone who became vegan did lose weight, did you ever hit a plateau? If so how do you overcome it? With weight falling off of me I'm now exercising to lose about 30 lbs, and to be in general more healthy =) I haven't been eating junk food, only fruits, veggies, lentils, whole grains, nuts, etc. Only healthy stuff! Thanks guys!

  1. None at all.

It isn't a weight loss regime. There are vegans of all shapes and sizes, from much too thin to much too fat, just as there are vegetarians of all shapes and sizes and meat-eaters of all shapes and sizes.

  2. I've been a vegan for about three months, and I'm currently at a loss of 25 lbs. So far no plateau, but I do know someone who has hit her set point, and she just excercises more often.

I find that the average loss for me (and several people i've talked to) is about 2-3 lbs per week

Congrats on the 8lbs! Keep it up!

  3. I lost 30 - 35 kilos ( about 66 - 77 pounds ? ) over a 5 - 6 month period following a raw vegan diet.

I did not weight myself before I started, so I am a little bit vague about the actual kilo amount. I prefer to work on how your clothes fit, rather than standing on scales. Basically when I started I was an Australian size 18/20 and I am now a size 10/12.

I was eating a huge abundance of fresh organic fruit and vegetables everyday, so I know I had my nutrients, vitamins and minerals well covered.

I did not start to following raw vegan to lose weight, it was just an added bonus.

Yes, I hit a plateau with the weight lose, but I am not too bothered, as the last stubborn fat will eventually fade over the coming months.

The only place I really still need to lose weight and tone up is around my stomach area. I thought maybe Pilates class may help to tone up there.

As I said, I did raw vegan for health reasons, rather than weight loss.

  4. None.  It isn't a weight loss plan.  It is just a new and improved way of eating.  I don't know of anyone who lost weight becoming a vegan.  I understand that the raw vegan diet is extremely unhealthy from what I have read.

  5. well i have only been one for 2 months and i have lost like 5 pounds, but i was pretty healthy to began with, being veghead before it.

  6. Loosing 8 pounds in 2 weeks on a vegan diet is definitely not healthy...... It's never healthy to loose that much weight that fast (even if you are exercising). If you're going to be vegan, you need to make sure you are getting all of your nutrients. Lots of people become vegans and do not know how to replace the nutrients they got from meat, eggs, milk, and cheese so they loose weight quickly.

I lost 5 pounds within the first 4 weeks of being vegan. I made sure that I was getting enough protein, calcium, iron, and everything else. I went from 132 to 127 pounds.

You should be loosing maybe 1-2 pounds a week. That's considered a healthy amount.

  7. i am 1 but i didnt loose weight but i had 2 stop because i wasnt getting protein because i dint eat beans so im going 2 say PROTEIN just make sure u get enough

  8. Well i'm a veg@n but i'm losing weight intentionally. So I guess since I have been veg@n i've lost about 15 or 20 pounds but like I said it was intentional.

  9. None actually.

I was already at optimum weight due to high level of exercise.
