Question:

How much weight directly effects your automobile MPG?

I know in terms of drag racing every reduction of 100lbs can portentially result in roughly a tenth of a second better in your quarter mile time.

With gas prices the way they are I was just curious how much of a weight reduction you would need to do, to increase your MPG by let's say 1 mile?

  1. In truth every pound you add to your car's weight will reduce your MPG.

The answer to your second question is difficult!

    Your MPG depends on:

Weight of the car, air pressure in the tires, how well tuned your engine is, what octane you're using, how you drive among a long list of things.

  2. I read some where that reduction of 100 pound = 1 extra MPG.

But I think that is too much of a generalization.  On bigger cars, 100 pound means almost nothing.  On my 94 Civic (only 2300 pound) the 100 pound would mean a lot.

    Good Luck...
