  1. There's an old saying that " a horse will pull more than it can carry". I remember pulling some horrendously heavy loads with the inline 6 banger and a three speed column shifted transmission. Stopping them was another issue altogether. Despite what the owner's manual will tell you about GVW I'd say you can tow way more than Chevy recommends. If you do it on a daily basis there may be some problems down the road as the truck ages but an occasional overload won't hurt it much. It's a truck...use it like one.

  2. The 2003 silverado with the 4.3 liter 200 HP and 260 lbs of torque engine is rated 4000 lbs of standard towing. If this truck has the tow-haul button on the end of the shift lever this stops trans overheating. The tow-haul feature stops the overdrive system from causing excessive trans temp. This feature changes the shift points for max towing power and less strain on the trans and runs cooler.Best of luck.

  3. about 3500 lbs, but you should ask a dealer or see the owner's manual

  4. What ever the owners manual says don't believe it. I destroyed 2 trannys in a 2005 Trail Blazer. Both times the trailer was under 3000lbs. These trannys just suck in the V6 trucks today. If you want to tow buy an older V8 truck or a diesel.

  5. It is a 1/2 ton truck..You should be able tow that load for the life of the truck
