  1. Our weight is determined by the number of calories you consume and the number of calories your body uses as energy. If you consume more calories than you burn, you will gain weight. You will lose weight by eating less, by being more active or – preferably – by doing both.

For permanent weight loss, you also need to learn sound eating habits. While fad diets may take the weight off, they don't teach you how to keep it off. Remember, you're learning a way to live, not just a way to diet. And to keep weight off, you must stay motivated. Successful weight control depends upon YOU — not upon any particular product or program.

Most health professionals recommend slow weight loss as the safest and most effective approach. A sensible weight-loss program allows you to lose weight gradually -- about one-half to one pound per week. Gradual weight loss promotes long-term loss of body fat, not just water weight that can be quickly regained.

Most people leading moderately active lives need about 15 calories per pound to maintain their weight. For example, a 150-pound person would have to eat foods containing no more than 2,250 calories each day to maintain his or her weight.

To lose one pound, a person must burn 3,500 calories more than are consumed. For example, reducing calories by 300 per day and increasing daily activity to burn off an additional 200 calories should result in a weight loss of one pound per week.

If you are 16 years old and are  5-3 1/2  you should weigh  from 110-150 pounds depending upon your frame.   (using a Body-Mass Index) So you need to lose at least 30 pounds.

To lose one pound, you must burn approximately 3500 calories  over and above what you already burn doing daily activities.

Strength training is a crucial factor in losing fat. Not only does it make your body and bones stronger, it also helps to raise your metabolism so you burn more calories all day long. Since you want want  to lose weight, make sure your workouts are balanced between cardio and lifting. Keep your reps between 10-16, lift enough weight so that your last rep is difficult (not impossible) and don't be afraid of heavy weights.

Cardio, like weight training, is crucial for losing fat. Pick any time of day, any activity--as long as you get your heart within your target heart rate zone and workout for long enough (20-30 minutes) to get the benefits. How much cardio you do depends on what you're trying to accomplish:

If you're trying to lose body fat, start with 3 days of cardio (if you're a beginner) and work your way up to 4 or 5 days a week for 30 to 45 minutes of activities such as running and walking.

If you want to lose body fat, you need to eat less calories than you burn. The key is to safely reduce your calories so that your body can continue to function as well as burn more calories. Experts generally recommend losing no more than 1 to 2 pounds a week in order to preserve your muscle mass and keep the weight off permanently. Your job is simply to make better choices that will help you reduce your calorie intake from 300 to 500 calories each day.

Research shows that people who find exercise activities they enjoy are much more likely to keep exercising for a long period of time. Try different activities and see which one or ones you enjoy most. See if you can get a friend to exercise with you, that helps you stay motivated.

  2. Ok at 5'3 with a wide frame you should weight between 140-150lbs.  DONT DIET.. just eat healthy foods... your caloric intake should be between 1400-1800 depending on how much you're exercising... running is a GREAT way to loose pounds fast and its cheap!  Maybe look up a race in your local area that is a few months away and start training for it.. get a friend to join the race with you and train together!  Also, yoga and pilates are GREAAT.. and get a set of 5lbs-8lbs dumbells and do some weight training exercies while watching tv.

  3. there's no answer. as much as your body looses, is the amount that your body can handle.

if you go crazy dieting and excersising, the minute you go off the diet, the weight will pile straight back on.

you have to eat healty, and excersise healthy, and you will loose the weight you need, within the right time range.

  4. the highest possible amount thats considered healthy is a pound a day.

depending on how much you exercise kind of determines what you should weigh. if your not too athletic i would say about 120 to 140ish.

muscle weighs more than fat though.

some easy exercises that will help include swimming...its fun and works your entire body, and walking. a simple walk around your neighborhood will do some good. bring an ipod and it will make it go by faster. i would also recommend joining a gym. maybe get a friend to do it with you and you two can work out together. and i know its hard to do (i have the same problem) but you have to cut back on junk foods. eat more veggies and fruits with lots of color and low fat meats like grilled chicken.

    good luck!
