How much will I spend on food in Europe for a week?

Question

I'm going to Ireland for 2 weeks in the Summer and I'm curious how much I'll need to bring for food. I'm staying in Kerry county, NOT in Dublin.

Also my friend and I were planning on going to England, Ireland and Scotland for a week in November and I was curious how much money we should bring for food.

I'm an American and YES I can survive eating cheap food =)

it just depends where you eat at.

Wherever you travel, you can spend a little or a lot on food.

If you buy stuff in supermarkets or local markets and eat sandwiches, fruit, etc. you can eat well on a low budget.

If you go to 3-, 4-, and 5- star restaurants (obviously you're not), then the sky's the limit.

And large cities are more expensive than small towns.

Right now the US dollar is weak (takes two of 'em to buy 1 British pound and $1.55-$1.60 to buy a Euro), so in dollar terms nothing will be cheap.

Taking a wild guess here, I'd say at a rock-bottom minimum $15-$20/day ? (no restaurants on that budget - maybe some pub meals)

If you really stretch it - and breakfast is included with your room - maybe you can get under that, but I don't think it will be easy.

For 14 days, that would work out to $250 and up.

But you don't really want to be on a rock-bottom minimum budget - part of the reason to travel in the first place is to experience other places - including their local specialties.

One way to experiment would be to pretend you are traveling while you are still at home.

You can't use your fridge or cook anything - see what it takes to feed yourself for a day from local sources.  That will give you a rough idea.  You wouldn't have to actually make the purchases, just figure out the prices.
