I am allowed 20kg per person, 4 of us are travelling, can I combine the weight of 2 cases into 1, so can a case weighing 35kg for 2 people be bought on the plane?

  1. some airlines will pool the baggage weight of all bags in a party but if you over fill your weight limit you will have to pay an excess charge at the airport before you are processed for the flight ....

plus it depends on what you put in your bag or case

  2. it all depends on the mass of the object on the suit case, if you are worried about going over the limit, you might want to weigh it at home, on a bathroom scale or something.

  3. Should you not have bathroom scales, my rule of thumb is that if I can lift it and carry it, then it is probably under 20Kg.  No way could I lift and carry 35Kg and why would you want to do that?  Should it go missing, you've lost two people's entire holiday baggage?

A wheeled holdall is usually lighter than a suitcase so you can take more in it.

I usually put heavier things in my carry on baggage.

Don't forget the rules about liquids and creams.

A thick coat or sweater can be carried on board - I usually fly in the early Spring and tuck a sweater inside a light raincoat which gives me more suitcase space.  If I'm taking any heavy shoes, I wear them, and pack the flip flops.

If you are flying from an airport in the UK which allows only 1 piece of hand baggage, a large bum bag makes a useful substitute for a handbag (you aren't carrying it - you are wearing it!)

  4. Sorry to be a bit silly but really depends what you will put in it.

Just pack your stuff and put it on some bathroom scales before you set off, then you'll have an idea. No, you probably can't use one case seeing as one person's  will be counted as the owner so unless your airline is very understanding you'll have to use two cases.

It's not just the flying weight but people have to be able to move the baggage easily, it's health and safety too. Better get written confirmation from your airline or there will be trouble at check in.

  5. all depends on the contents held within suitcase  lol

  6. If your taking gold or lead bars on holiday, its going to be over weight

  7. Well, obviously it depends on what you intend to pack in it, but it might be worth checking with your particular airline!! Some have quite rigid rules....mainly due to health and safety. Some thought has to be given to baggage handlers who are not allowed to lift suitcases over a certain weight.

I'd say check it out with your tour operator, or airline first, rather than get to the airport, and find you are either overweight, and have to pay horrendous excess baggage charges, or find yourself buying another suitcase at the airport to split the weight. I used to work in Birmingham Airport, and have seen this happen on many occasions!!! Here in Cyprus, though Larnaca is pretty easy going about weight restrictions, Paphos Airport tends to be pretty strict.

  8. Look at your airline's details. The limits have come down sharply. British Airways will not handle a bag over 23kg.

  9. It very definitely depends on what you put in it. I don't think you will want to carry a 35kg case very far, I exercise with weights, but would not choose to take that much weight in my suitcase.

  10. I am afraid it totally depends on what you put in it. Shoes and sandals are one of the biggest offenders for adding weight to a suit case, so be strict with yourself and bring versatile footwear to minimise it.

Most airlines stick to a certain limit per person, which cannot be shared. That is, if one person is a kilo under, their travelling companion cannot add that kilo to their limit I am afraid. It will be stipulated in the booking info.

  11. It depends on what you put in it.  If you fill it with clothes it will be lighter than it would if you fill it with bricks!
