Question:

How much will a single retainer cost?

Heres my deal..

I got my braces off in March, and have worn my retainers everyday since.

That is, until last week when my top one was gone.

I've searched everywhere in my house, parents cars, and other places and I can't find them anywhere.

My parents are obviously not going to pay for any of it, so I guess i need an estimate of how much it'll cost.

Thanks.

  1. They will cost around 200, if you don't have insurance...

  2. Well your parents can either pay for a new set of braces or another retainer. Check with your orthodontist. For me a replacement one will cost 350. Your teeth have probably already shifted though....

  3. There are two types of retainers, the clear ones (essex) and the acrylic/wire ones (hawley).  The prices vary of course, but some offices charge less than $100 for the clear ones, and probably slightly more than that for the acrylic/wire ones.  I personally like the acrylic ones better, but that's just my opinion (I think the hold tooth position better).

Like the other person said, you should get a replacement ASAP because your teeth will start moving in a matter of days.  Hours even.

  4. The retainers from my orthodontist costs $175 for a replacement set.  So half of that would be $87.50.  Replacement costs should be specified in your contractual agreement with your orthodontist.  My child had one break once, but that was covered by the orthodontist.  Lost retainers are generally the responsibility of the family, but check your agreement to be sure.
