How much will an eye exam and pair of glasses cost without insurance?

I have glasses now but they are older and I do not remember the prescription, and I just got a big scratch across them and they are starting to fall apart.

I am in the DC Metro area (Maryland) and just need to find something reasonable since I don't have insurance.

  1. That depends, sometimes you can go to a big store like lens crafters and get a free eye exam. I know my last pair of eyeglassees cost about $500, but it really depends on how expensive your frames are and what lenses options you choose.

I would call around to different places and ask how much an eye exam would be.

  2. it really depends on the place you go.. i would call around

  3. Last time I got glasses they cost me around $80 or so after discounts and they were Rayban.  My insurance covered the eye exam, so I'm not sure how much that would cost, but most doctors charge a little over $100 for first time patients. Depends on the doctor, so call around to check some prices.  I used a discount card that took about $110 off my glasses, so that was nice. The discount card is from www.atlanticbenefitcard.com that I got with my insurance, but its like $9.95 a month.  I just went there to check to see how much it would take off for an eye exam and it says $57, but that depends on the doctor, but it would be around there. I would suggest using something like this if you don't have insurance. Check the website to see which doctors in your area take it, if there are some, I would definitely keep it in mind.
