  1. for now, being on your mother's policy will be the best approach. rates for new drivers are very high, and you are not able to get insurance, typically, with only a permit.

  2. I recommend you find a local auto insurance agent to assist you. Since I live in Nebraska I can't suggest an agent in California, but here is an resource that can help you. http://www.multipleautoinsurancequotes.c...

  3. it doesnt hurt to compare . . . i dont know of to many sites you can compare on but one is http://www.COMPAREusINSURANCE.com

  4. Try using http://My-InsuranceSearch.com to compare car insurance rates for all the major providers in your area.

  5. The only way to know for sure is to get some quotes.  The more quotes that you get the more likely that you will receive the best rate available for you.

There's a site at http://www.InsuranceEasy.org that makes it easy to get quotes from multiple free on-line rating services.  I would take advantage of this site.

    Hope it helps!
