We have a ford f150 that gets 8-12 mpg.

We are traveling from michigan to sc which is around 975 miles.

  1. Doing the math, if you drive your truck, you work out to close to $250 on gas each way, (975 miles, divided by 12 mpg, multiplied by $3/gallon for gas.)

As an alternative solution, if there's a car you could use there and you plan on making the drive in a single day, it works out better to rent a sub-compact with better mileage.  (Figured at 25 mpg, and $40 rental.)  You'll save a hundred bucks.

  2. probably around $300

975miles divided by 10mpg times $3a gallon for gas

    not so bad...have a good trip :)

  3. well you can always look up how big you gas tank is online then however big it is divide by 975 then thats how many times you will fill up then mulitply that by how much it cost to fill it up.  i think thats how you do it i know it will be alot lol .

  4. Is quiet a bit of money.  Do you have a more economical vehicle?  I drove on a pick up from TX to WI to GA to TX.  It was 17hrs going up, 22 hrs going to GA and about 20 hrs to TX.  Is not easy and no cruise control.

Are you towing some?  If so, the MPG will lower even more.

Consider food, toll if any and maybe a motel to stay if you can not make it on one shot.  That will perhaps brings it to $500 one way.  Are you coming back?
