  1. erm, i think you keep rising it and it will just hurt the country.

But if you wanted peope  to stop using fuel, rise it up to £100 per litre and i bet you some people would still pay!.

  2. people will continue to buy it no matter what, they will get smaller cars b4 they stop buying it, no gas=no way to get to work= no cash= no way to pay living expenses, its a big cycle

  3. It's not one price at which people will  abruptly stop. As the price goes up, people will buy less and less (which is  already happening to an extent).

  4. Never will happen. When gas sales start to drop, they lower prices for a while, but the y ALWAYS will rise.

When I started driving, gas was 27 cents a gallon, and has been going up ever since.

  5. I will buy gas at any price because of the whole survival thing, I have made all the necessary changes to accomodate the increase in prices, and probably will have to make even more accomodations if things don't change soon!

My two cents (for what it's worth):  everyone stop the excess driving around for at least one month, catch the grocery store on your way home from work, schedule the doctors appointment the same way, don't drive a if you don't have to...see what happens because I would bet the fuel prices will have to come down at some point, but that's just my opinion.  They may go back up again, but when there's more supply than demand...I think it would just be really interesting to see how this would help us.   As for the government stepping in to stop an outrageous increase in pricing, that will never happen, atleast not right away, as long as we have a president with vested interest in the oil industry.  This country is in a bad economical shape, I live in a fairly large city and we have a lot of companies shutting down their offices...those that shut down did rely on truck transportation to move their goods.  I am currently looking for employment and am having to look outside of a 50 mile perimeter because there is a freeze with hiring new employees everywhere here.  Luckily I just bought a new car that gets 36 mpg, so I'm not too concerned.   I really don't think the extra refund checks this year are going to do much in the way of boosting the economy either.  Take a look at the price of heating oil (which surprisingly there are still a number of people who have to heat with it)...$3.59 a gallon here.  Cooking gas is $3.79 a gallon.  Not only did the boom of the housing market hurt us, but the increase in the cost of fuel was the icing on the cake.  When people can't afford to buy groceries, after filling up their vehicles, they are going to push the limits and begin to bounce checks and that really hurts businesses because they aren't getting their money in return or they get it at a slower rate.  Look at the number of bankruptcies, that hurts businesses as well because a lot of them aren't getting their money at all, they may claim it as a loss but that still isn't helping them as much as actually getting the payments for the debts owed to them.  It's a huge domino effect.  The government had better be fast stepping or we're going to experience a whole lot more than just a resession.

  6. Over $2.50 a litre. Your in America yeah? Well that's around $9 per gallon. The government will step in then and do something. (probably) They will have to, if no-one can afford to buy it, the government can't tax them.
