I live in Australia, have ordered a small book only from America, its due to arrive in about 4 weeks, what are the taxes (if any) or any extra payments that I might have to pay to get my book? Thanks! :)

  1. All items which come through the post into Australia are scanned for customs purposes. Normally any item from overseas that has a customs declared cost of $1000.00 or more will be passed on to The Australian Customs Service and processed through them . You would then pay GST and any other charges that are applicable to the item being sent to you. This book should get to you in the normal manner and no extra charges should be payable. Recently, I received in Australia, a thank you note from England. It had been opened by the Customs people as their x-Ray machine had detected that there may have been some contamination there. They explained that nothing untoward had been found in the letter and apologised for opening it. Again the Customs people opened a parcel I received from an eBay seller in America. It had a customs declared price of US$460.00 on it. They thought there may have been some dried leaves in the package. The only leaves in it were part of a porcelain figurine. There were no additional fees and charges for this package.
