I have a 98 Ford Taurus SE. I need to get an inspection but I'm tight on money, being a college student... at least for another month but i expire on Monday so i need to get it... I know that my breaks might be shot and that i need an oil change... I don't know much about carts but i know that it is probably going to be expensive... does anyone have an estimate of how much they'd charge for that?

I also live in NYC, and i think inspections here cost about $40. And if i don't like the price they give me and want to take it to another delearship, will i still be charged for the inspection?

  1. Brakes run around $100 dollars here so that might be alittle higher in new york. And walmart does oil changes for about $30. So under $200 should be pretty close im figuring. If you pull up to get it inspected before they do anything ask how much. If you dont like it then you dont have to pay, just leave and go somewhere else. But once they work on it or you make an appointment you have to pay.

  2. it would probably be around 150-200 for the brakes and oil change.  you could probably find someplace that will do it for less, you just have to call around.

i don't know about NY, but in pa most of the cost of inspection is the actual sticker.  so, if i took my car in to get inspected and it did not pass.  then i went someplace else to get it fixed, i would only have to pay like 15 dollars instead of the full amount.  but, i would have to pay that 15 plus the cost of the sticker when i got it inspected again.
