How much will it cost me to have a person from the yellow pages come over and upgrade my computer ?

i have no sound on it and i want him to totally fix it up to standards.

  1. probably an arm and a leg.  This area you're looking minimum of $65 an hour (also the minimum charge is an hour) plus parts.  The question you really have to ask yourself is whether the machine is going to cost more to upgrade or to replace.  If the upgrade is going to run in the $400 range, you should think about replacement. ($400 is only a few parts and a few hours of time).  Also, and machine with half new, half old parts...  well, think of it this way, it can only go as fast as it's SLOWEST part.  Ask youself how old the machine is...  is it worth it???

I'd advise against having someone from the yellow pages do that. as for upgrading it, you could take it to a computer store and have it upgraded there, but if it's a really old computer, like one with a pentium 3, then there's no chance of upgrading it. could you post the specs? that way we could tell you more. but it all comes down to this, do you trust a random guy you found in a phonebook with your computer, or not?
