all the movers websites make you sign up for email and fill out contact info and I'm just curious what it may cost me. If anyone has ever hired movers can you provide me a little help? or estimate off of what you've experienced? I'm in a small studio, and really don't have that much stuff. futon, two book shelves, tv stand and tv, tiny table and chairs and mattress and maybe a couple heavier boxes I'll need help with. The rest I can probably move on my own. I'm only moving about a mile away as well. In chicago. Anyone think they can give me a likely estimate for a oct 1st move day?

  1. Well you do not need to ask movers for an estimate.

You can plan your moving budget by using the "budget planner" on movingcollege.org.

Once you are set with funds go to movers.com and ask for bids on your move, and make sure you check the companies with the "check your company" tool on movingcollege.org

Packing advise is also available on the site with video tutorials.

    Have a safe move,

    Nick.

  2. Have you tried just calling the moving company?  It'll let you skip the registration BS and provide you with an instant quote.

Otherwise, you might also consider making a post on Craigslist.com.  For such a short move, and in a city as large as Chicago, you'll likely find someone willing to help out for a much cheaper price than a professional moving company.
