How much will it cost me to re-restrict an Aprilia RS 125?

Hi, I'm buying an Aprilia RS 125 in the near future and I've seen that most of them for sale are de-restricted to 33bhp. When I take my CBT I'll only be able to ride a 14.6bhp bike. How much would it cost me to re-restrict an Aprilia RS 125 to 14.6bhp obviously for insurance purposes?

  1. ahem...dont be silly.no one will know,not even thefuzz.

leave it as it is...or is you really want to do it then simply disconnect the powrevalve servo motor.

  2. Surely you can find one that hasnt been derestricted. Its quite an easy job to do yourself if you have a Haynes manual but if you dont like getting your hands dirty then it shouldnt cost more than an hours labour at a garage. I think they install a washer in the exhaust so parts shouldnt cost anything.

  3. On a provisional licence (with L plates) you can only ride a bike with a power output up to 11kwh, youre right in saying that the rs125 is a bit more powerful.

As its only a 125, youre probably going to be ok riding it as it is, just make sure you have the insurance for the exact model you buy. Ive known loads of people who have insured and ridden rs's at 17 without any fuss.

If youre really worried about it, a bike shop would probably charge around £150 to put a throttle limiter on the bike to restrict it.
