  1. Land anywhere varies a lot depending on the quality of land, location, and water availability.

  2. Contact a realtor with connections in Texas. Cost? Never has the saying of location, location, location been more true than buying land in Texas which has land of almost every variety, from tropical to desert and everything in between.

  3. google  agricultural land for sale texas.  I did, and found very varied prices.  The first page I looked at had several between 25 and 30 acres, but you could refine your search by size, or county, or city, or price.  I found 40 acres for $32k but it looked very barren, like desert.  Also 25 acres for £32k which looked a lot greener.  But a lot depends on where you want to be.  Texas is a big place.  You decide, then go  google.  Good luck !!

  4. Texas has five distinct areas and farming in each is very different.

I grew up in the Panhandle.  The minimum farm size up there was a half- section -- one half mile by a mile, 320 acres.  In a good year you might raise 4-5,000 bushels of wheat.  Land up there sells for $500 -$1000/acre.

If you're looking at a small "subsistence farm" you'll need to look further south, but land prices will go up as fertility/rainfall increase.
