How much will it cost to build, 24ft x 10ft extension ?

I am currently renovating a house for my son who is on a budget, and was wondering as to how much i should set aside for building materials needed for an extension measuring, 24ft x 10ft. Many thanx Colin

  1. Depends on where you are, materials you use, value of the house you are attaching to and the quality of finish materials you are using.  Do you have to add electrical capacity?, heating and cooling?, plumbing?.

    Figure $30.00 to $40.00 per square foot materials on the low end if you aren't adding any plumbing, new heaters/coolers and you have enough electrical capacity to power the addition,  and you are keeping the finish materials on a budget.

    If you are adding a bath and keeping the finish to the same standards as the house you are adding to, figure a finished square foot price about the same as the value of the existing house.

    There are a lot of variables here, such as access to the site, how far for concrete, availability of materials, delivery, site conditions, dirt hauling, etc.  Look for difficulties that you will have to overcome and add for all of those items.
