  1. Simple build the door yourself and/or ask someone to help.

    1. Clear the "Den"

    2. Remove the Window

3.Loosen the  brickwork (hammer + chisel)

4.Knock the Wall down from the inside

5.Build the door and connect the rotating hinges

    6. Install the door!

  2. $1000 in the midwest.

  3. My company installs garage doors. the total for a decent door and installtion runs $550 (assuming it is a standard 2 car garage). The door itself runs about $400 and installtion via a company $150. It is easy to find guys that moonlight on craigslist and you should be able to get the install for about 1/2 $75 range.

If you are on a tight budget you also might want to check craigslist for used doors. Lots of people these days are buying houses and tearing out standard white doors for the fancy wood carriage house style. the old door is fine and can usually be found for $50 if uhaul it away. Some garage doors companies might even have some as well.

As for the demo part I would not know, but depending on where you live, most construction work is slow so there should be lots of workers ready to give bids. Post ads that you are looking and you should get good reponses.

My guess is it should cost a total for anywhere beween $400 (with used door) to $800 with a new door.

Good luck. I see this situtaion alot. I never understand why people make such permanant rooms in garages, it makes selling a home pretty hard.

    Good luck with your project!
