  1. Around $300. if you do it yourself.

Suggestion...I used hard plastic kidie pools.

You can sit them on the ground and put blocks, etc. around them, or you can bury them.

I have 5 of them, ready for more.

    Fish, plants, turtles, and frogs.

My ponds take care of themselves.

    Only costs @ $25. a pond.

  2. Wow - now there is a question!

First of all, are you really wanting to undertake having and caring for a KOI pond - with KOI fish?  Or do you just want a nice garden pond with some plants and maybe some goldfish?  Those are 2 very different things.  Audrey B.'s suggestion of using a small "kiddie" pool as the base of a pond definately is just for a garden pond, not for use with Koi, as Koi can grow to be over 2 feet long and need a pond over 1000 gallons and 3-4' deep - deeper if herons or racoons will be any threat!  Herons can easily walk into a 3-4' pond and eat all of your koi as one meal!

You said you wanted a pond approximately the size of a bed.  At 4' deep, that would make your pond about 1000 gallons, so you would be within the minimum recommended size for a pond for koi.  It is said that koi need about 200-300 gallons PER fish, so in 1000 gallons, you could probably keep 4-5 fish.

In calculating a price, you need to figure in the costs of the lining, pump, filter, heater (if you are in a colder climate), rocks/boulders, plants, fish themselves, and other things such as UV sterilizer, skimmer, etc.  I'm providing a couple of links that should interest you and help you with beginning your pond.  I would strongly recommend that you continue learning all you can about ponds and koi before beginning your adventure in fish keeping.  :)

I personally keep comet goldfish.  They only grow to 8-12 inches long and come in all of the colors that koi do.  You can have a much smaller pond with these guys.
