My families bird "mike" is suffering from lonelyness and she keeps laying eggs. Also we think she has a broken wing or something else is wrong. She uses her beak and neck on the bottom of the cage to drag herself around and she was shaking the other day.It would be better for her not to suffer anymore. Please help my family find the cost of vetinary help.

  1. You could try calling your local vet and just asking them. If there isn't one open today you should have some sort of local emergency vet available. Please don't just let the bird suffer.

  2. First of all suffering for loneliness is no reason to put down nor is a broken wing. Take to vet for a check up see what is wrong and go from there. Broken wing can be easy to fix depending on where it is broken. My thought is that the bird may be egg bound and calcium deficient if she keeps laying eggs which can cause the sx you are describing. calcium loss can make them weak, have seizures, shake so can being egg bound. Provide heat with heating pad under her cage, provide calcium supplement with cuttle bone and crushed oyster shell both sold at pet stores. Then cover cage halfway and dim the lights. Then call vet and get her there. Good luck. It is not expensive to put a bird down. Call and find out.

  3. PUT IT DOWN??!!!! isn't that the easy way out and of course kind of mean?? Of course the bird is suffering from lonelyness, wouldn't you suffer from loneliness if you were in a cage all by your self and unable to move around? And how can you leave the bird in its cage knowing that something might be wrong with him/her? I just think you are plain mean, you just don't let your pets suffer specially if you see that they are not acting normally. Oh my God just reading your post makes me angry!!! instead of putting the bird down why don't you find someone who really cares about animals so they can provide the bird with some much needed TLC? I will take her/him in TODAY instead of just "putting it down"

  4. Before you put the bird down take it to a vet and see if they and help it. There are rescues for birds. You can also ask around your neighborhood and post an ad at Petsmart to see if someone wants it and will be willing to take care of it.
