How much will it take to bring Cliff Lee back?: Ryan Nolan

The Winter Meetings are set to conclude on Thursday, and it seems there activity is gaining speed at the moment. Carl Crawford was just signed up by the Boston Red Sox, and that marks a major transaction that has swept through the meetings. Players in the
free market are looking to close deals with clubs, and teams in turn are looking to fill up gaps in their formation. The give and take relationship are entering a new phase now.
The market for Cliff Lee however is still throbbing. There has been an influx of demand for his services and the New York Yankees have already made their bid for the top agen,  by placing a preliminary offer of $140 million for 6 years. That has signalled
a significant step in eventually signing the player. The market is either going to clear off, or there will be a counter offer placed by a competing team.
The Texas Rangers have been in pursuit of their former player for quite a while, and since the maestro has done a lot for the side, they would want to make it to the World Series again with Cliff in the driving seat. The only problem has been that the pitcher
himself is not placing a demand, and that has president of the Texan ball club, Nolan Ryan, confused. He wants to know what it will take to sign the player again.
Nolan said, "We've asked them to give us a number on what it will take for Cliff Lee to come back to the Rangers. There is a lot of speculation flying around. We felt what's best in everybody's best interest is to find out what it will take to sign Cliff
Lee. We all knew the Yankees would be big players."
There has been little mention of a demand, and Cliff Lee’s agent Darek Braunecker has brought a lot of confusion into the winter meetings. Nevertheless, the Rangers are pursuing an ulterior objective, to get someone better.
General Manager of the Texas club, Jon Daniels said, "We want to get better. There is a possibility we could look to improve our defence, bullpen or offence instead. We're getting to the point where we've got things lined up and are looking at other ways
to improve the club."
