How much will the average Mountain bike tire tube, 26inch hold PSI-Pressure before they blow. I put in 40-45?

I ride mine around town once in a while mostly a little offroad......but i generally keep it at 40 pounds front /back sometimes 45. How much do they hold before they go. I just bought my tube at Canadian tire for 4.99. Just wondering.

  1. Unless the tube is somehow damaged, it is really the combination of the tire and the rim that determine maximum pressure.  The maximum pressure will be on the sidewall of the tire.  Most knobbie mountain bike tires will take up to 60-70 lbs/square inch.  Road tires for mountain bike wheels will take more.

For off road riding, though, you should be more concerned with how little air you can put in without pinch flatting.  Too much air compromises traction and handling.  Unless you are riding pretty mild trails, I would think 40-45 pounds is too hard.  You might want to try 35 pounds and see if you get better traction and speed.  You might even try 30 pounds.  At some point, of course, the tire will begin to feel mushy and at risk of pinch flatting and you'll need to put in some more air.

    Hope this helps.

  2. The pressure is the function of the tire not the tube. That's why you see max pressure on tires and not on tubes. Outside a tire a tube would explode with just a few psi.

Does this make sense? It should as it's correct.

LOOK on the tire it's stated what the TIRE will hold.

  3. I keep my MTB tires at 60,  tribike clinchers at 120, and the tubulars on my carbon racing wheels at 150.

Maximum pressure is marked on the tire sidewall.

  4. They will hold up to around 65 or 70, but i reccomend no more than 45 for road riding and around 30 for off-road riding.

  5. about 60psi i had one blow when i was pumping it up and a 60psi it poped so hope this helps
