Sophie, nice of you to flaunt your ignorance like that. I see some things that are important to environmentalists aren't so important to you. Such as air.

  1. I would say to...run my car && it will probably sell for like $100,000,000.00

    :D

  2. al gore will get the last gallon. he will trade some carbon footprints for it and put it in his suv.

  3. to run my chainsaw....

  4. Emergensys or a chain saw. Don't really know.

  5. There won't be one for a long time.  The world's proven petroleum reserves thus known will continue to last for hundreds of years.

Even if they were to run out, we have other ways to make gasoline.  Look up "thermal depolymerization".

  6. We won't ever get to "the last gallon of gasoline" because it will be completely uneconomical to get to it.  Oil can be extrected from shale and can be found by speculatively drilling in unexplored regions but all of this costs money.  By the time we get that far, other fors of energy will be so much cheaper that it is not worth looking for more oil.

As for the last gallon of oil that will actually be extracted and sold, it will most probably go for about the same price as we are paying now or up to about twice as much as we pay now.  If the price gets much beyond that, the people wanting the oil will either find other ways of producing what they want without oil or they will use other sources of oil such as rape-seed.

Oil has many, many uses and although a vast majority of it goes into cars currently, even once the cars don't use petrol anymore there will still be a big demand for oil.

The last gallon of fossil-fuel oil will most probably be used in the creation of plastic as I think that will be the last industry that continues to use oil when all others have stopped.  If not plastic then my next guess would be oil for lubrication.

  7. probably millions and to be used in some rich jackasses car or something really important.

  8. First  of all it wont be a gallon. "Gasoline", I presume you mean Petrol will soon  become  unused as several different engines come on  the market. This is quite apparent, if you look at the increase & development of the deisel engines in the last ten years. Nevertheless, these engines  (not so popular 10 years  ago), were probably more suited  to bio fuels then ,ie. veg oil, but I"ve no doubt the manufactureres  will soon make change their design to accommodate bio fuel. So  I expect  before the last "gallon" of gasoline dribbles its weary  way  out of a pump, we will all  be driving veg oil burners! Hope this helps.
