  1. A lot and a lot. If you already have a degree still quite a few years to get the doctorate and even more before you make it to CSI Miami

  2. decdication and frequent headaches are needed but itll be worth it in the end

  3. A very large amount.

Any PhD should not be undertaken lightly and the individual study is likely to dominate your social life.

You should also consider the recent rise in forensic science graduates and the current popularity of the field. Good Luck.

  4. All PhDs are hard work (otherwise everyone would have them). PhDs in forensic science really are very hard scientific PhDs. You will have to really narrow down the area you want to work in (forensic science is extremely broad). For example mine is in forensic palynology but in fact has more to do with genetics than forensics. Forensics is just the application.

I'm one year in of 3 years of back breaking work and lab experiments. It has to be original too, which considering the popularity of forensics it's hard to find new areas, supervisors and funding for your PhD. Make sure you research what a PhD actually is and ask other people who've done them about the volume and level of work required. Don't do it unless you are absolutely sure it's what you want to do.

If you do it then good luck :-)
