I was wondering how much work is really involved in converting and refueling a volkswagon jetta that runs on veg oil. They have kits that cost like 1000 dollars that you install in the car and basically they say it runs, is that true? Also finding fuel, will most restaurant's just give you oil and how much do most restaurant give away at one time, I am a 20 year old college student that doesn't have hours a day to spend driving around to every restaurant getting 5 gallons at a time? So basically I am wondering how time consuming is it to keep these vehicle's running on clean veg oil?

  1. If you get a cistern and make bio diesel yourself...you don't have to do anything to the engine.

I am looking into making it myself.

  2. I made my dual tank conversion for $320.I get more power better mpgs.,than on diesel.

I don't trust biodiesel because of left over methonal.Plus it higher than diesel, when it should be $2.50 a gal.I add 10% diesel to the wvo,to make it flow better, that way no need to heat tank.

I pay a $1.50 per gals to drive the vendors out. They feed the oil to cows, chickens and hogs.

    Madcow anyone,they never learn.

  3. That's the point - getting vegetable oil is not a small task.  Of course, if you're living in your car, down by the river, maybe you've got the time.

  4. If the car is Diesel powered to start with, you don't have to do much of anything.  If it isn't, conversion is totally impractical.

  5. somehow people get the idea that old veg oil is wasted or thrown away...its not..most places get paid for it...there are co's that drive around with big trucks taking it for recycling.. get the smallist high milage gas car u can...some get 35/40 miles per gallon....

  6. I WILL TELL YOU SOMETHING OF INTEREST==AUTOMOBILE MANUFACTURES BUILD VEHICLES TO USE A CERTAIN GAS OR DIESEL AND WHEN YOU USE SOMETHING ELSE FOR A WHILE AND IT STOPS WORKING. YOU WILL HAVE TO BUY A NEW ENGINE TO REPLACE IT LIKE OTHERS HAVE DONE. now if you can get everyone to stop buying mobile, exxon, shell and texaco and their affiliates like each of these, like standard, esso etc. for the rest of the year, then these companies will start to lower their prices and so will everyone else== this is called a gas war. then soon you'll be paying less for fuel, but not until everyone does this. I saw it happen in the 60's.
