I have three phone lines coming into this proerty. The junction bos is on the wall outside the front window upstairs. The cables are all in and so to the sockets. I just need the line down stairs to come in upstairs and visa versa, easy just swap wires around on terminals. Job Done. But what could i expect to pay for this easy job to be done.

  1. GET A MATE TO DO IT ITS SO SIMPLE BT WILL RIP YOU OFF HAVE A GO YOURSELF YOU CANT DO ANY DAMAGE

  2. Yep, BT will rip you off. Do it your self. Just make sure you write down what colour wires go where.

  3. BT will charge about £140 so get a nearby telecoms firm or DIY.

  4. The price for a shift is approx 70 quid. Do not use a private engineer as they are not allowed to work on the network owned by Openreach/BT. Don't try doing it yourself if you do and you damage something the costs are 116 quid plus any other labour. Call BT on 0800 800 150 or your service provider and an engineer will sort this quickly and safely.

  5. BT wanted over £100 just to come to my mum's house because they refused to believe it was their line that was faulty (it was their line that was faulty by the way).  If you look in Yellow Pages, you should be able to find a telecomms business or electrical contractor who can do the job much more cheaply.

It is easy enough to do the job your self except that I don't think you are allowed to modify the wiring into the master socket for each line.

  6. so much money your eyes will bleed, get someone else to do it. Never trust that ******** company, major rip off artists.

  7. Only Openreach engineers are legally allowed to carry out this work.

If you or a private telecoms company alter / tamper with the BT Openreach network you or they will be guilty of criminal damage.

And if you do decide to do it yourself and get it wrong and you end up getting Openreach in to sort it out, the cost of that will be far greater than if they had been out in the first place.

Would you mess around with the gas or electric ?

    Thought not.

Do the right thing and get Openreach to do the work.

  8. BT are awful, a rip off, difficult to get hold of and not customer focused in the slightest.  See if you can't get someone you know to do it - they wanted to charge me £50 to set up the homehub!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

  9. Min charge is £60.00 + Extras. But what are extras???
