Okay, so I was wondering, since everyone has told me that if I were to buy a motorcycle, buy it used. (I'll be 18+ by the time I'd get one.) I a bit over a year. LOl okay...i turn 17 in like april. but whatever. i would take the classes for learning. i would use the proper gear such as helmet gloves boots. (i believe in wearing a helmet. i kind of like my brain inside my skull) okay, so i really like the V-Star Classic. But it's a tad bit expensive. plus i have to think of insurance and gear. So if i were to get it used, about how much would i pay? and is used safe?

  1. Buy a used "learners" bike. Something in the 250cc to 500cc range. Just about any bike will do. Keep in mind that you probably will dump it with in your first year, either while riding or after its parked. Make sure the tires are good as well as the brakes. If you can, have a reputable shop in your area check it out. Remember to buy water proof gear if your gonna rely on this thing to get you to school. Leather gloves are a great way to clear off a water soaked wind mask on a full face helmet. Be careful and have fun.

  2. ya buy a used cheap learners bike first, by the time your ready you ll know what a good bike sounds and looks like

A good learners bike would be a bike that can take a beating like a used dirt bike, something that uses a clutch . you could pick up a used crf 15f or crf 100f for about 1 grand . both are not powerful and are definitely the best learners bikes and piratically need no maintenance

  3. I saw and rode a used 2006 1100 Classic with about 2300 miles this spring, the owner was asking $5000 (it sold). I sold my 2006 1100 Custom with 4500 miles for $6000. Both these bikes were exceptional and in the Midwest. The Classic was the pewter color, kind of drab... Mine was the Red with Ghost flames, and showroom new in condition virtually perfect...absolutely cherry.

Avoid looking in the spring unless you come across a deal, usually prices are the highest then....

If you are looking at a 650 and feel comfortable by all means base value less then above, but don't fall for a learners bike like a 250 or around there, you'll be selling it in a month to get what you really want....
