  1. It depends on the density of the water and the density of the object. For instance, if you took 100 lb of styrofoam underwater, it would be very light and float. If you took 100 lb of lead underwater it would still feel heavier and sink. Why don't you take the a weight (ideally less than 100 lb) and hook it up to a spring balance and take it underwater and see how much it weighs. I think that weight does change underwater (might be wrong), but mass stays the same everywhere.

  2. Depends if it's salt or freshwater.

  3. i would think lighter

  4. the weight of 1oolb stuff under water will be the actual weight of the 100lb stuff- the amount of water displaced by it eg: the rate of water displaced by the stuff= 30lb thenits weiht will be 70 lb (100-30)

  5. Depends on its volume.

  6. the water on top of it push down on it.  its always heavy underwatre when i go in there.  less so.

  7. Dear friend, I do not know why there are several confusing answers given by others. The Archimedes law says when a body is immersed in a liquid it seems it lost some of its weight. That weight loss is equivalent to the weight of the liquid displaced by the body. So it depends upon the specific gravity of the metal .If you immerse gold the weight loss will be very less .If you immerse soft material the weight loss  will be more. It depends upon volume of the article you immerse in water.Based on this facter I have designed the purity finder for gold.
