As above, I'm looking to mount it on a 16 foot bass boat.

  1. Overpowering a boat is very dangerous.  You would have to rework the stern of the 16 foot boat to accomadate a high horsepower engine.  Older saltwater outboards are not worth anything.  You can't find a good saltwater Outboard from the '80s that is worth buying for more than $400.   Too old and unreliable.  Especially when you don't know the engine and how it was cared for.  Good Luck.

  2. i agree with above, you can find great deals if you look hard and wait for the right one, also anything over 115hp will deystroy your boat. it will rip the transom right off. sounds like fun can i watch?haha

  3. prolly about $2500 for a good one from the mid-80's, your best bet is to actually buy a used boat that has one, then switch over the engine and sell the boat without an engine or with your old one from your boat

ps: I bet your 16' isn't rated above 115hp max
