$7.00 to $25.00 an hour. Depends on what part of the country you are from. And what type of experience you have.

Salary and benefits do depend on a lot of factors.     Location is one.......assistants in California make a lot more than the assistants in Kentucky.

The type of dentist you work for is another factor.  If you work for an Endodontist (root canal doctor)  or an Oral Surgeon or a Periodontist (gum doctor)  you make a lot more than for a general dentist.  

Experience,  schooling,  and certification can also make a difference,   but really I suspect pay ranges from $10- $20 hourly,  and benefits range from 0 up to some great packages including health,  vacation,  sick leave,  and continued education.
