How much would a public school classroom teacher get payed a week in the north east region?

  1. It depends which state.  But, I'm in Connecticut.  The average annual (10 months of work-187 days) starts at about $40,000-$42,000 a year.   Plus, benefits and your pension plan.

    As you progress in your career, you get bumped up the pay scale.   Also, in Connecticut, you are required to have a Master's degree by a certain year of teaching (I can't remember what year)  That increases your pay scale.

    But, don't forget the opportunities to teach summer school, tutor after school, etc.

    I know some first year teachers making closer to 50K, because the tutor and work summer school.

    Connecticut has the highest paying teachers in the country.  I never knew that until I came on here.  In Connecticut, teaching is considered a good profession and most teachers are comfortably middle class (if not higher w/ their spouses salaries)

    The 40K starting salary is comparable the starting salaries of college grads in other professions.

    It's good to be a teacher in Connecticut!!
