How much would a transmission cost for a 2001 sebring with 140,000 miles on it? estimate?

my boyfriend is getting the car for free, it was his moms, but it probably needs a new transmission. any rough guesses?

If you have a "pull a part" junk dealer near you a trans wouldn't cost you any more than sixty dollars at the most.

I'd call a junk yard and get a price on a used tranny.  It would save a lot of bucks and would probably work fine.  Then call a mechanic you trust, and ask how much he'd charge to install it.  That would give you a real figure that you could use.
