  1. Based on my recent experience, you will need around 130 Euros* per day (90 for accommodation, and 40 for meal, tram and museum tickets etc.) If you are a little thrifty, you can manage on 100 Euros per day.

A very simple, but clean and safe place to stay in Amsterdam, is Hotel van Onna (hotelvanonna.nl). When I was last there, it cost 45 Euros per person per night.

Another good option is to stay in a lovely nearby town called Haarlem, which is much cheaper, and is only a 15 minute train ride away from Amsterdam.

In a week you should be able to see every worthwhile place in the Netherlands. If you have spare time visit Belgium, in particular Bruges, or go to Paris (4 hours train ride from Amsterdam).

    Have a great trip!

    * The current exchange rate is roughly 1.6 Dollars per Euro.

  2. $5000 is more than enough for staying a week in Amsterdam and your flight. If you want to spend the whole $5000 you should definately go to a nice hotel like Krasnapolsky which is in the center of the city (this is  definately the most luxurous hotel of Amsterdam; many famous people stayed here)

I have been in Amsterdam many times, since I live in the Netherlands.

    hope this will help you!
