Hi, me and my partner have just bought a house that needs lots of work. Our next project is sorting the conservatory out. At the moment it has no electricity in there. Bought two wall lights and would like to know if anyone could give me a rough idea on how much it would cost us to get somebody to fit the lights plus two plug sockets. Hope someone can help me out.

  1. If you can do it yourself that's great.  I'm afraid of trying anything electrical due to a fear of being shocked to death.  :)

If  you want to hire someone I would go to angieslist.com  I have hired lots of people in the past who did poor jobs or never finished, then I tried that place when my refrigerator broke and got the greatest guy who barely charged me anything to fix it.  The site only accepts listings from people who've used the services, companies/workers are not allowed to list themselves, and then people report on their experience with the company/worker.  And no, I am not affiliated with the site in any way other than having signed up and hired someone from it.

  2. if you go to ratedpeople.com they will phone you with a price.

usually they charge a day rate of between100-150 a day

  3. I believe you can do this yourself. First get to a home depot and buy the do it yourself electrical 123 book. In this book it will explain how to do it yourself. Second read the book. If you still have questions a master electrician at home depot will beable to help with suggestions.

This will save you that arm and a leg.

  4. Depends what state the electrics are in at the moment.

As well as all main bonding to be in place, now every alteration/addition now has to be RCD'd so an absolute minimum of 200 quid.

I'd recommend getting at least a CU change before doing anything, for which you'll probably pay 400+.

  5. An arm and a leg

  6. about 4 hrs work @ £25 per hr plus parts etc ... £200ish
