How much would an eye exam and contacts really cost?

I have a student health insurance, which doesn't cover check up or glasses for my eyes. Of late, I'm finding it difficult to read letters from a distance due to blurred vision. Does anyone know how much would a visit to the eye clinic cost? Do you have any recommendations for clincis in Redmond/ Seattle/ Bellevue areas?

  1. Visits to eye clinics would vary by the area you live in and where you go.  When I go to ShopKo Optical, an office visit is about $60 but my husband goes to an optometrist's office that charges $95.  Cost of glasses and contacts will vary by what you need and the kind you get.  Glasses and contacts will be at least $150.

  2. If you don't have eye coverage, go to a place like LensCrafters, Pearl or Sears, Walmart etc.  They usually have a package deal that covers eye exam and lenses. Also, you should have a pair of glasses.  Shouldn't wear contacts all of the time.

  3. I had my last eye exam in Arpil, at Walmart Vision Center. It cost me $30 for glasses exan plus $46 for contacts (follow ups included).

Also I got my lenses at internet store for $25 per box ( acvueve Oasys)

If you buy their contacts for the first time you can get up to $50 or 60 rebete go and check this website : http://acuvue.com/rebates

I got my $30 back in 3 weeks.

If you have any more question, let me know.

    Good luck!

  4. My appointments are generally $60 or so, and I get both contact and glasses prescriptions.  (glasses are generally in the neighborhood of $200 for a decent pair I like, and last 1-2 years or occasionally more- you can get lenses only ground to your prescription, to fit you existing pair, to save $$$)  I get my contacts from 1-800-CONTACTS.com, and generally spend about $150 on a supply that lasts me a bit over a year.  (eye doctors recommend getting your eyes checked annually)

  5. Contacts can cost anywhere from $30-$60 a box if your insurance covers it, depending on the kind of contacts you need.  Usually they give you an 8 or 10 month supply, and the number of boxes depends on the kind of contacts and whether or not you can keep them for 2 weeks or 4 weeks.

    It can get rather expensive.

  6. Depending if you have insurance, it will cost differently. For me, 6 pairs of contacts cost $116. Some insurance companies that allow you spending money or whatever. You need to know what kind of insurance you have.
