  1. Is it slipping? Grinding can be a hydraulic problem (the hyd master or slave). Get going about 5 mph shift into 3rd and floor it. If the engine revs up and the cars not moving very fast its slipping and the clutch needs to be replaced. If the clutch is working fine after its engaged and your only having problems getting into gear it's most likely the hydraulic master or slave. I replace both of them at the same time because they are both the same age and 1 usually follows the other. As for price on the clutch, about $600-800.

  2. Find out where Cleo_eve gets his work done. NOBODY in the Chicago area will do the job for $400. Just the parts (clutch disk, pressure plate, release bearing) cost more than that. Add to that $90 per hour for the labor charge (I figure it takes 3 to 4 hours).

The Imprezza (and all 1999 and newer Subarus) has all wheel drive. To pull the clutch, you have to drop the exhaust system, pull the front axles from the tranmission, disconnect the driveshaft, disconnect the transmission and pull it back at least 10 inches before you reach the clutch.

Then you must unbolt the pressure plate assembly, slide the clutch disk off the input shaft and remove the release bearing. Then put everthing back together using the new parts.

  3. Say i'm not up on these car,but dose it have a slave cylinder if so it could be bad are just has air in it ane needs to be bleed. If it gets down to where you have to replace the clutch and pressure plate along with the throw out bearring plus labor i think your looking at around1200 . bucks for the job.

  4. Should be about $400
