Question:

How much would it cost to adopt an animal (zoo or nature reserve)?

Not the kind where you contribute $100 to "adopt" the animal and get a certificate to commemorate it. I mean the kind where you adopt an animal so that whenever you want to see it up close and have personal visits.

  1. Some have up close and personal visits with your animal. Some you get to talk to the animals keeper. Some offer just free passes to the zoo, tours, certificates, info on your animal, etc.

And most of the time visits will not be whenever you want to. It will be by apportionment, specials visit days, or limited visits a year.

Here are a few of the ones I found....

All of our residents need adopted friends to help make their lives a little better. As an adoptive friend, you can help make a difference in the lives of the animals you choose. Of course, adopting one of our animals does not mean you can take it home with you, but you will receive an adoption certificate, a photo and brief history of your animal and a pass that will allow you several free visits per year to see your adopted critter at our sanctuary. Adoptions are only $50 per year. All adoption fees are applied directly to the needs of your adopted animal.

Our Adopt-A-Wolf program allows you to "keep tabs" on your favorite Wolf Park wolf or give a friend or loved one the gift of wolves.  Sponsors over 18 years of age are welcome to make appointments to meet "their" animal, up close and in person, anytime during the year of their sponsorship. (In some cases, sponsors may have to meet a proxy.) Visits can be scheduled year-round, and last 30-60 minutes depending on the interest level of the wolf.  In addition, sponsors receive a certificate with a photograph of their wolf, a biography of their wolf, and quarterly updates on their wolf, along with recent photos, and a bit of fur shed by their adopted animal in the spring -- plus all the benefits of a family membership.  (Sponsorship includes a family membership.  You do not need to purchase a membership separately!)

The fee for sponsorship is $175 per year, or you may pay in 4 quarterly installments of $43.75
