just the materials will run you $60,000 to $70,000. add in will you need a well, septic tank or mound system. do you want a basement?  so roughly between $80,000 to $150,000 good luck

Where do you want this house built?  Figure anywhere from $100-175/sq. ft., depending on exact location (Chicago versus Ames, Iowa), what extras and finishes you want, etc.  Get your plan finalized, and then submit it to a half dozen or so contractors.  Make sure that they are bidding on EXACTLY the same terms, and make your decision from there.  Ask for and check references.  Good luck.

Location makes all the difference. Around here you can have a modest home built for $75 per sq ft.
