  1. A dog-eared wood picket fence 6 feet tall using 2 x 4 rails and 4 x 4 posts will cost you approximately $5.69 per linear foot, plus fuel surcharges.  Remember, this is with you supplying the manual labor.  If you want to use a vinyl fence, the cost will run you approximately  $9.20 per linear foot for the materials.  If you want to have a company install it, usually you double the price.  Don't forget to get a permit and call the utility companies before you dig.

P.S.  These figures are in Tennessee.

  2. I was in the same boat and it was actually much more cost effective to have it done by someone else.  They have all the specialized tools all set up and put up a fence around the back of our 100 wide by 190 deep lakefront lot.  I don't have the exact figures on hand right now, but purchasing retail I couldn't even buy the materials for the total price of what I paid to have the fence built and installed on site!!  (cedar fence, 4.5 feet tall, 1 gate.)

  4. well i did mine myself and it was half the size of yours and cost me 900 bucks  and is 6 foot privacy fence

  5. Hard to say since you didn't specify how tall or the reason (privacy, pet retention etc). A wood fence 6' tall made with decent quality material would probably be about $30 per 8 foot section. Then theres a lot of labor involved digging and erecting. "Cheap" is very relevent when you use inferior materials and have to repair or replace in a couple years.
