I have always had an intrest in snakes and as I have about 210 pounds in my moneybox, I have thought about buying a cornsnake.

How much do they cost? Will my funds be sufficient?

  1. Corn snakes usually a standard to an albino here can usually cost between 30-50$ which is about 15 pounds to 25 pounds i believe. Then the initial setup would probably cost anything from

75 pounds to 100 pounds depending on what products you buy, where you get the setup.Plus prey every week for a corn snake will add up overtime so make sure you factor in a good amount going towards prey.  I'm not sure what prices are in the UK but i tried my best to convert the costs of supplies in USD into pounds but as i said the costs usually depend on where you live and where you get it from.

  2. Yes that will be easily enough and you will be able to provide a fantastic habitat.

    viv,heat mat,thermostat,water bowl,2 hides,thermometer,substrate,climbing branches and thats about it.

You could also go for a ceramic bulb and cage instead of the heat mat which puts the price up a bit but is the better long term set up.

Your best bet is to shop around for the best prices,e-bay etc.

I have all this equipment for sale brand new and very cheap, and if you want any prices just contact me and ill be glad to give you prices and you will have plenty of change from your 210 to buy a really good cornsnake morph.

  3. ok i dont know about pounds but i will tell you in dollars and you can figure it out from there!

In the states depending where you buy....if you buy at a reptile show or expo you can buy a baby corn for anywhere from 15 to 60 dollars....at a pet store probably twice as much.

If you find a used aquarium with a lid that would save you alot of money...i would start with a 40 gallon..and that will be sufficient for a corn snake..if you wanna go bigger and let them have alot of room to crawl and hide you could get a 55 gallon....used 40 where im from goes for about 20 dollars..or less 55 gallon...40 dollars.....LIKE I SAID THIS IS WHERE IM FROM!

You will also need a heat lamp...good ones are about 10 to 30 dollars...

a hide box...that depends on what kind you get and what size..or you could make your own...you can use clay pots with a door broken out for them..you could use wood...plastic...whatever....just make sure its easy to clean...

water bowl...a bowl big enough for them to get in and soak if they want to.

youll need to feed it mice or pinkies to begin with..depending on the size...

If your a first time snake owner i would go with a corn snake at least a few months old who has eaten at least 4 or 5 times..corns are very small when young and sometimes its hard to get them to eat  for the first time...you will need some kind of substrate...wood shavings usually..just dont use sand

im sure ill think of something else later but right now...i think thats about it...you should definately read up on their care before you go out and actually buy one...because even though they are easy first time snakes..if you dont know what he needs how can you give it to him?

  4. Well i have a baby corn snake and the 20gal. tank will cost you about 30$ then the bedding is about 5-10$ dollars depending were you go the light bulb is 10$ and little stuff like a little house, water bowl, sticks about 15$

So all together it will set you back about

    $65.00

    So good luck

  5. i dont know about pounds, but when you buy a snake of course the expenses keep building after the initial purchase as you need food for the rest of its life, and that can add up to rediculous amounts over time.
