  1. You could buy a piper cherokee, cessna 172, etc. You can buy them for about $30,000 used. They are very reliable, easy to fly, low fuel consumption, 5-8 person, good range. Out of any aircraft company, I recommend Piper, Cessna, there is also another cool one if you like boating too. Lake LA-4, You can also get a learjet for only about 1 million dollars.

Look up these planes for more info. You may find some of these for even better price. Hope this helps

  2. If you will do an internet search on "[type of airplane] for sale" (for example, "piper cherokee for sale") you will find many, many listings.

A 5 or 6 seat airplane in decent condition will start at about $100,000 to $120,000 and go up to a million.

A "family" airplane that will carry 2-3 real adults will start at around $30,000 to $40,000.  But it is strongly recommended that you get your Private Airman Certificate first before you even think about buying an airplane.  During the flight training process you will learn a lot about the available types of airplanes and the pros and cons of each.

Then you can fly rental airplanes for a couple of years until you are sure you are ready to buy.

  3. As others have stated there is a big range. However, as an aircraft owner, I can tell you that the check you write to buy the plane will be one of the smallest checks you will ever write as an aircraft owner. The largest expense in owning an airplane (much larger than gas, etc) is maintenance. I just bought a little cable for the heater for my plane for $700.  The FAA just sent out an AD on my propeller (which was nearly new) that cost me $13,000. Most people say the best way to prepare for airplane ownership is to go to the bank, get a bunch of bills and start flushing them down the toilet. When it stopps hurting, you are ready to buy.

  4. Depending on your thinking 5 or 6 seats isn't a small aircraft.   I have a 1975 Piper PA28 which seats 4 and it's worth about $45,000 today.  Planes are like cars and you pay for what you get.  There are chevettes and covettes, and everything in between. Around  $100,000 would get a good decent cross country 6 seater with IFR capability.  Another consideration is insurance, maintaince, and fuel.  My plane has fixed gear and a fixed prop so it is not considered complex.  I have no claims and for my wife and I it's just over $2000 a year for insurance.  The plane needs to be inspected EVERY year, called an annual which is seldom less than $1000 as something always needs attention it seems.  100LL avgas here is $1.70 per liter so it costs about $250 to fill the plane and I can fly for about 5 hours on that. You can check controller for any aircraft prices you want.
