  1. I wouldnt think it would cost to much you would need 2 by 4's and sheet rock putty and nails and then your paint, why would you want to make the lower?


  2. Why do you want to do that? That would be taking away from the home's value.

    As far as cost it depends on how big the room is.

    But if you must, the easiest way would be to install a suspended ceiling.  The tracks are cheap and are hung on wire or strapping.  Accoustic 2'x4' panels are $2.50 each and up and you can buy opaque panels behind which you can install lighting.

    Installation by a DIYer takes a little care with a level but is not all that difficult.
