Also, can I dictate the duration of my extension or is it up to immigration to decide how long can I extend my stay here in the US? I'm here in the US on a B1/B2 visa.

  1. It is $300 to file for an extension of a B1/B2 visa. You can extend for up to a year from your initial date of entry, so if you came to the US on January 5, 2008 you could file for an extension up to January 4, 2009. You can choose any point in between that year period.  Can take anywhere from 1-4 months depending on the time of year and processing center you are using.

  2. Hello, you have two option my friend:

    1) File an extension, it costs about $250-$300 and it will take 2 months, in those 2 months you can stay and then they will tell you if you got the extansion or not, if you will get it - you got 6 more month, if not - you got to leave.

    2) Option number 2, it costs $0 (yes free), when you have 3 more days on your stamp go to canada for 4 days, they come back to the US and since your stamp is out of date you will get 6 more months (they let you in 95% of the times).. if you do it for 3-4 times in a row they will start to suspect that you work there but it usually ok.I

  3. The fee for Form I-539 is $300. Part 3 of the form asks:

I/We request that my/our current or requested status be extended until

    (mm/dd/yyyy): ___________________________________

You can put the date you intend to depart the U.S. in that space.

It is up to Immigration to approve or deny your request.
