I'm going Into grade 10 this year but I wanted to get homeschooled in grade 11 and 12 because I hate the pace they go at in public school so

I talked to my sister whose gone through Uni and everything but she never had any experience with homeschooling and she said she had no idea how much it would cost. So for those who have experienced it

how much would it cost to have your parents teach you while following the curriculum and how much would it cost to get a private teacher??? I live in Ontario Canada btw :) thnxs

  1. The cost of home schooling varies.  I have seen some which are ridiculous and others that are quite reasonable.  I found a list online through the website of our local school system.  They require that we choose from schools on their website or to do it ourselves, we need a teaching certificate and must make lesson plans and have national testing done on a proctored basis.  We went and contacted a number of schools on the city's website and requested information on the schools via telephone.  The schools will send you the costs, accreditation's and a finance plan.  The least expensive schools were mostly religious based but we chose a correspondence school which has been outstanding.  Bear in mind this information is within the U.S. but I think I saw some Canadian schools like this as well.  I think the costs are reasonable in our case but you also need to remember the exchange rate would make your choice different.  Good luck

  2. It costs as much or as little as you & the people around you want to spend. In general, the more imaginative and resourceful you are, the more inexpensive it's likely to be.

If you were to get a private teacher (which is wholly unnecessary, btw) it would easily cost you thousands of dollars, whereas my parents homeschool me & my siblings very succesfully for approx. $50 per kid per year.

  3. If you can read and understand what you are reading, you do not need a private teacher.   The cost of education is the cost of the text books.  Since you already have internet connection, you can find your text here.   If you enjoy lecture type learning, type in a search for 'free lectures'.    Several colleges offer free lessons via internet.   This is not for 'credit' but rather for an education.

  4. I think it is more preferable to go to school for studying as you will have to pay more than it for home school. But as you say that you hate that pace.

I have one idea for you if you feel comfortable. Visit the sites which are provided all the educational help which you are willing to. You can share you thoughts to others as well as get tips from them. More, you can ask the questions about your career and they will be answered by the teachers or experts in those fields. I have come across one such site.

I assure that you would get the solution.

  5. If you are just normally homeschooled, It does not cost much. You can just get the textbooks, or you can get everything, such as they teacher keys and test books. It is naturally more expensive than a public school, because a public school does not cost anything.(besides taxes) But compared to a private school it is very inexpensive. An estimate would be somewhere between $50-$150 usually, depending on how many materials you get, (teacher keys, test books, test keys, etc.) and where you buy them, (directly from the curriculum warehouse,Ebay, online, etc.) I personally recommend Ebay. As for a private teacher, that would probably be very pricey, and besides, thats not even homeschooling anymore. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Hope this helped you out. :)
