How much would it cost to look after a chimp as a pet?

Don't do it.  They do not make good pets.  They get aggressive as they get older, and do nasty things like fling their p**p around.  Chimps are social animals, and keeping them in enclosures, by themselves is lonely and cruel.

It would cost LOTS $$$. Also, do not even consider it. Once they are past the cute baby stage they are incredibly strong and quite aggressive, not to mention very smart. Quite possibly your local city ordinances forbid it anyway.
