How much would it cost to purchase a 1080p TV for my Xbox 360 Elite?

I have an XBox 360 Elite and I want to be able to maximize my systems potential, maybe 720p-1080p. I don't want to spend a lot of money, maybe maximum at 500 dollars, but the minimal the cost the better. I also want a tv that is made for video games, not one that will mess up my screen from playing, like a Plasma would. So Help me out here.

  1. Do not buy a Sony tv.

You will not be able to play because the xbox is HDMI 1.2 and Sony tv's only accept 1.3.

It isnt worth it if you buy a cheap LCD tv because the quality is really bad compared to orthe well known tv's.

  2. For a 500 max, you can probably get a 32" LCD with 720p resolution (not sure about refresh rates on these models). It'll also be an "off" brand like element or insignia (we got a 32"  insiginia for my daughter and it has been fine).

If you up your price range you can go for 1080 i/p.  If space isn't a huge issue, you can also go for rear projection. Many of the models are still thinner than your average tube tv's. You get a lot of real estate for the price in comparison to most LCD's or Plasma's .  I have a 60" Sony DLP rear projection that has phenomenal picture contrast and close to about 170 degree viewing angle (none of that old image loss when viewed from the side).  We ran a  friends 360 on it with the HDMI cable and let me tell you some jaws dropped.  When we went over to his house you could see the longing in his eyes as he played it on his 27" tube.

Samsung has some newer Plasma models that have addressed the "burn in" issue, but I'm still not impressed with Plasma images over projection or LCD.

I will warn you that standard 480 i/p images will look pretty crappy in comparison. The pixelation is depressing, but when you see good hi-def content you'll get a warm sense of smug satisfaction.

    edited to add:

HDMI 1.3 is backwards compatible with 1.2 ( I played the 360 on my Sony also see links below). Check  multiple independent reviews before you settle on a HDTV.

  3. sorry, this isnt an answer to your question but in another question you said you wanted to know my gamertag on xbox live. allow emails and i'll send it to you.

i play call of duty 4 a lot, GTA4, rainbow six vegas 2, and other games like that.

so either email me or allow me to email you. i just don't want to tell everyone what it is.
